ING ROBOTICS

Delivering All-in-One 3D Vision Solutions for Manufacturing

At a glance

Challenges

For the past six years, ING Robotics Co., Ltd. has been automating automotive parts using 3D vision technology. However, they faced challenges in using a single automation solution due to diverse customer requirements. Furthermore, selecting a high-quality 3D machine vision camera that could perform reliably in tough manufacturing environments was essential.

Solution

The Zivid 2+ L110 camera maintains high performance despite temperature changes, making it ideal for precision assembly automation regardless of external factors. ING Robotics Co., Ltd. introduced a 3D vision solution called ROBOEYE, which integrates process management with in-house developed software to meet various customer needs.

Result

The ROBOEYE automation solution, equipped with the Zivid 3D camera, is currently being applied in several factories in South Korea. Additionally, ING Robotics has developed customized grippers and accessories, now available on their web shop. Through these advancements, ING Robotics Co., Ltd. aims to accelerate its sales in both domestic and international markets as a one-stop solution provider.

Even after applying automation solutions developed through extensive testing over a long period to the field, achieving consistent results was challenging due to numerous variables in real-world settings. Particularly, the changing environments in manufacturing sites, such as temperature differences, dust, and light, made selecting the right 3D machine vision camera essential for providing consistent high-quality results.” - Byung-Koo Lee, CEO of ING Robotics

01 Story

Random bin-picking is an automated task commonly used in the manufacturing industry, where robots retrieve parts from bins or pallets for further processing. This process requires handling objects of various sizes, colors, and materials, necessitating machine vision capabilities that serve as the 'eyes' of the robot for precise operations. Therefore, selecting a high-quality 3D camera is crucial for the success of bin-picking, as it ensures accurate detection, selection, and placement of parts.

ING Robotics, a Korean SME with 24 years of experience in factory automation technology, primarily serves automotive parts companies. They provide one-stop total solutions to smart factories, specializing in the advanced handling of materials such as light alloys, castings, forgings, body parts, and machined parts. Their smart automation system, focused on 3D vision technology, smart factory automation, and industrial software, has been effectively used for precise and complex processes in industrial manufacturing sites.

02 Challenges

For the past six years, ING Robotics has been using 3D vision for automation. However, a single solution could not meet all demands due to different environments and requirements from each customer. Overcoming this required extensive experience and time to develop appropriate solutions for various applications. Particularly, understanding each company's robot protocols was time-consuming. They recognized that both 3D camera functions and the role of robot grippers were crucial for successful picking.

Even after applying automation solutions developed through extensive testing over a long period to the field, achieving consistent results was challenging due to numerous variables in real-world settings. Particularly, the changing environments in manufacturing sites, such as temperature differences, dust, and light, made selecting the right 3D machine vision camera essential for providing consistent high-quality results." said Byung-Koo Lee, the CEO of ING Robotics.

03 Solution

To meet diverse customer needs, ING Robotics offers a one-stop total solution that manages all processes from consulting, design, manufacturing, and installation to production management. Based on their extensive experience in factory automation, they can integrate 3D vision with multiple robots from various brands. They also manufacture customized grippers and accessories to meet diverse needs. Utilizing their self-developed Equipment Predictive Control System (EPCS), customers can run web-based predictive, preventive, and monitoring capabilities of the integrated system anytime and anywhere.

ING Robotics introduced ROBOEYE, a 3D vision solution combining the Zivid 2+ L110 3D camera with their in-house developed software. The Zivid 2+ L110 is a 3D camera optimized for robotic automation applications requiring a wide field of view and workspace. Designed for robot arm mounting, it provides high-resolution 3D point clouds of objects in pallets, large bins, and multiple totes with a single capture. This enhances the accuracy of object recognition and pose estimation, reducing errors and maximizing picking success rates.

ROBOEYE is suitable for various automation applications, including 2D and 3D machine vision projects that require precision, such as bin-picking. It features a multi-pickup function that autonomously determines and picks items and offers a unique function that allows instant calibration even when a robot moves between two or more large pallets. To improve the accuracy of bin-picking, they employed a linear equation method to find the unit vector values of the robot to ensure that the gripper is centered.
